Smiltyne Yacht-club
Smiltynes str. 25, Klaipeda
Tel.: (+370 46) 39 11 31

The Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea offer excellent sailing conditions in the Kursiu Nerija National Park.
Yacht-clubs in Smiltyne and Nida welcome sailors from many different countries. The only condition for them is to pass the passport control and customs by entering through the Klaipeda Channel. Clear and visible signs show the way to these offices.
The yacht-club in Smiltyne provides a harbour for yachts of different size. There is a WC, shower, cafe and hotel, which is owned by the yacht-club. Fresh water for refill is available. Charges for harbouring vary during the season. The yacht-club in Nida welcome quests also. There is WC and shower. Travellers can have meals in Nida's restaurants and cafes, and stay overnight in one of hotels there. The passage way from Smiltyne to Nida is marked with common signs.
It is possible to rent a yacht with a crew in both Smiltyne and Nida yacht-clubs. Entertainment trips to the Curonian Lagoon are also organised.
Each season sailors can take part in regattas, which the yacht-clubs organise. These competitions attract participants and spectators from both Lithuania and abroad.

BIKING

Riding a bike in the Kursiu Nerija National Park is a perfect opportunity to visit the most interesting and the most beautiful places on the spit and to get aquatinted with its nature, landscape and settlements.
A biking trail of approximately 20 km has been developed recently, joining Nida, Preila, Pervalka and the beach. The track stretches through the woodland and has no big humps or slopes and since traffic is prohibited there, even a beginner bike-rider can feel safe and sound.

Special rest places are arranged along the road. Information stands located at the entrance to each settlement will inform you about the nearby places of interest. Nida and Juodkrante itself have bicycling paths. During the summer season you can also rent a bike there.

GATHERING MUSHROOMS

Gathering mushrooms is very popular among citizens of Klaipeda and the Curonian Spit. The beginning of the season depends on weather - if it was moist and warm enough, mushrooms appear on the second half of summer and grow until November. Mushroom pickers mostly find ceps (Boletus edulis Fr.), orenge-caps (Leccinum versipelle), brown birch boletes (Leccinum scabrum Fr.), yellow boletes (Suillus variegatus), slippery Jacks (Suillus luteus Fr.), saffron milk-caps (Lactarius deliciosus) and flavoured tricholomas (Tricholoma flavovirens Fr.).

Mushroom picking is allowed on the entire area of the national park, except Nagliai (between Juodkrante and Pervalka) and Grobstas (between Nida and state border) Strict Nature Reserves. Mushroom picking in the Kursiu Nerija National Park is free of charge.

BERRY-PICKING

The Curonian Spit isn't especially rich in berries. However, this is just one of ways to spent free time. The biggest blueberry fields are in vicinities of Juodkrante and Nida. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and cowberries can be found in the park also.
Berry-picking is allowed on the entire area of the national park, except in the Strict Nature Reserves. Nagliai Strict Nature Reserve (between Juodkrante and Pervalka) and Grobstas Strict Nature Reserve (to the South from Nida).

FISHING

The Curonian Lagoon and the Klaipeda Channel are the best places for amateur fishing. Prevalent fish species here are common bream (Abramis brama), perch (Perca fluviatilis), pike-perch (Stizostedion lucioperca), roach (Rutilus rutilus), vimba (Vimba vimba) etc. In spring, fishermen go for the Baltic herring (Clupea harengus membras) in the Klaipeda Channel.
Ice-fishing is especially popular. This is the best way to catch burbot (Lota lota) and smelt (Osmerus eperlanus). Fishermen from boats in the Baltic Sea catch plaices (Pleuronectes platessa), Baltic herrings (Clupea harengus membras), Baltic cods (Gadus morhua callarias) and turbots (Scophthalmus maximus).
Fishing by any mean is allowed in the Curonian Lagoon up to 500 m from the shore with a special permission issued by the Lithuanian Ministry of Environment (except angling from the shore). Only angling from the shore and ice-fishing are allowed at night. State border police permission is obligatory for fishing in the Baltic Sea and waters on the state border. It is allowed to catch up to 5 kg of fish per fisherman a day.
Amateur fishing in the park is defined by Lithuanian Amateur Fishing Rules.
